Electrocardiogram (EKG) signals are unique biological signatures that reveal individual heart rate patterns. In recent years, this heart data secure authentication and started to open a new way for the protection of sensitive medical information. The researchers published a new study to understand how reliable the ECG-based biometric systems are.

Basic issues of today’s ECG biometric applications:

  • Most existing work is limited to data collected in fixed environment and rest
  • I am not tested against heart-beat patterns that vary over time in real life conditions Tags
  • Not known the performance of the system under physiological changes such as exercise
  • The potential of the ECG in terms of personal data security is not yet fully used Tags
  • Advanced applications like training biometric features in self-supported learning tasks are still discovered

The research aims to fill this cavity by reviewing the fixability of ECG signals in **dynamic conditions. Understanding how the heart shot affects body activity, stress and temporal changes, has critical importance to carry ECG authentication to the real world. If these findings are successful, a safer biometric method may arise on medical devices and health data platforms.

ECG biometroscopy is developing as an alternative to traditional password and fingerprint systems. As this technology matures, it is expected to be widespread in personalized health applications and wearable devices.
