The idea underlying on the basis of Google’s portable devices strategy is simple but revolutionary: or if computers were just enough with a web browser? When asked this question in 2010, Google manager Sundar Pichai was telling a concept to change the operating system world. Today, this vision of life in products like Dell XPS Googlebook has turned into reality almost ten years later.

The basic ideas of Pichai revealed were:

  • Deposit requirement is eliminated: Since all data will be stored in the cloud, there is no need for large storage of devices. -Hafif hardware is enough: Instead of strong processor and more RAM, simple components come to the forefront and costs drop.
  • Application and data live on the web: Instead of desktop software, web applications and cloud services shape user experience.
  • Link is primary requirement: Internet connection becomes more important than all other features.

This approach was met with suspicion when it was first. However, the demand for Chrome OS-based devices has exploded in businesses, mainly used for educational institutions and preliminary accounting operations. Google’s cloud-first strategy was offering a cheap and reliable solution for basic tasks.

Chromebook is not only a budget-friendly option. Manufacturers such as Dell, Lenovo and HP have entered the premium market with high performance models. Chrome OS is now widely adopted by educational, corporate and individual users. The dream of Google’s decade ago has now turned into a everyday reality by millions.
