The performance of language models is often measured on limited and controlled benchmarks. However, in real world applications, the system meets much more complex conditions. To close this gap, researchers developed a new method called HARDEN.

HARDEN makes it difficult for existing test cases using restricted emotional search algorithm:

  • Automatically measure the actual capacity of the model by converting input data more complicated
  • It creates systematic difficulty levels by searching throughout the area specific complexity axes
  • Changes the validity of the results by applying restrictions such as protection of task semantics and realisticity
  • It produces more power test scenarios for the same response by keeping expected outputs fixed

The existing benchmarks do not represent the real complexity of enterprise distributions sufficiently, this approach solves a critical problem. Thanks to HARDEN, companies can evaluate their models better for difficult situations where they can encounter in the production environment. The method can automatically generate different types of difficulty from symbol manipulation to multi-hop reasoning, which helps models to reveal how durable in the real world.
