Apple’s well-known instant messaging platform iChat, particularly paid attention with the sound and video conference capabilities at the beginning of 2000s and 2010. Nowadays, a nostalgic and technical curious motive developer community has launched a new life in this old technology. This project is driven by the purpose of providing both historical software heritage and modern users.

What Does İChat Re Life Bulma Initiative Cover:

  • adapting iChat to the modern network infrastructure of original audio and video protocols
  • Increase the compatibility of iChat functionality on older devices
  • Creating an independent conference system based on open source code foundation
  • Today’s effort to update the structure with encrypted communication standards

The project represents an interesting example of software argology. Developers can learn how simple but effective conference systems are designed and implemented by reviewing the architect of iChat. This study is also a nice indicator of how the open source community can restore forgotten technologies.

Given the complexity of modern conference applications, iChat’s simple architecture offers a contrast view. When Nostalgia and technical innovation are combined, most of the time are growing valuable learning opportunities.
