The number of Internet of Things (IoT) devices is rapidly increasing, creating serious difficulties in data standardization in areas such as cities, energy management and environmental monitoring. A new research brings solutions with small language models using smart data models (SDM).

Basic findings of research:

  • Material-efficient hybrid approach reduces network bandwidth and transaction load by performing data classification on edge devices
  • Small language models can work naturally on IoT devices with limited resources unlike traditional large models
  • Smart data model classification provides system interoperability (interoperability) by standardizing heterogeneous data from different IoT sources
  • Compared to existing solutions, this method significantly reduces both the calculation cost and energy consumption

Research increases IoT systems efficiency by focusing on edge computing paradigm. Unlike traditional cloud-based approaches, it minimizes latency by processing data on the device and protects privacy. Small language models offer much lighter and quick alternative in this process.

As a result, this hybrid approach will increase the scalability and efficiency of the IoT ecosystem, make smart cities and energy management systems become faster and reliable.
