The next step of artificial general intelligence (AGI) journey can solve the scientific problems that humanity can not yet solve. OpenProblemBench shared on the arXiv platform to test this vision reveals a new benchmark that measures how advanced AI systems can go in real world research.

The main features of this benchmark:

  • 82 undissolved problem selected from the advanced areas of mathematical and theoretical physics Tags
  • Each problem contains detailed information about the context of intermediation, assumptions and previous progress**
  • questions that require real scientific ability** beyond current information
  • Ability to evaluate the performance of AI models in themel theoretical science objectively

OpenProblemBench passes beyond the previous AI benchmarks. Standard tests such as ImageNet or MMLU measure fixed accurate answers, this new approach is engaged in open-end scientific problems. Every problem is based on the knowledge that researchers work on years, created in layers.

A critical design decision to present contextual information. The systems not only find the right response, but also need to understand the concepts of complex mathematical and physics. This means to reveal the difference between responding to prompt and conducting real research.

OpenProblemBench will help AI to draw a realistic picture of what it can contribute to scientific problems. The performance of future researches on this data set will be an important indicator in identifying the real role of the machines in the science world.
