While artificial intelligence tools become increasingly skilled, trusting them to get dangerous decisions can lead to fatal results. Mt. Shasta event showed concrete example of this risk. Google’s Gemini chatbotu advised a group of climbers a heartbreaker.

What to know about the topic:

  • Gemini’s proposal: Chatbot, Mt. Shasta claimed that climbing only 8 hours; in reality, this is a much longer and dangerous initiative.
  • Real result: The climbers had to be saved by the rescue teams after more than 24 hours. -**: The wrong planning in high altitude means oxygen shortness, weather conditions and other hazards.
  • AI hallucinations: Artificial intelligence models can sometimes produce convinient but completely incorrect information and offer it safely.

This clearly reveals the limitations of AI systems. Today’s LLMs (big language models) learn from the data provided by the human but this data is not always true. Especially in life and death issues, online chatbots can take a catastrophic invitation to push blindly.

As a result, we must help professionals when making decisions involving health, safety or life hazard. Although artificial intelligence is a great tool, no technology can replace human experience and professional knowledge.
