The rapid development of artificial intelligence technology reveals an important question: Who should determine the rules for AI? The answer to this question is critical to all society, not only for technical experts, companies and governments.

Nowadays, various actors play an active role in AI regulations:

  • Technology companies strive to identify their internal management standards and ethical rules, but this situation reveals the lack of independent audit mechanism
  • International governments When creating legal frameworks such as the AI Act of the EU, challenges are experienced in global adaptation
  • Sivil community organizations and print on academic institutions, transparency and accountability
  • User and affected communities want to raise their voices to protect their interests

The determination process of AI rules is not only a technical issue. The institutions will also determine how algorithms will behave in bias, privacy breaches and economic inequalities. Given different cultural values, economic interests and social needs, the creation of a single global standard is extremely complex.

To be fair, transparent and open to everyone’s involvement of the AI ecosystem of the future, all stakeholders need to be placed on the table. The collaboration of technology companies, regulators, academicians and community representatives will be the best way to use AI to benefit humanity.
