Apple released Screen Time parental control features with iOS 27 last month against users. However, the new system looks far from providing hopeful comfort. According to the experience that The Verge is transferred, every device needs to be updated in the family group to use the new Screen Time feature and this condition reveals how difficult the technology harmony in the house can be.

The main sources of the problem can be summarized as follows:

  • All devices in the family group (iPhone, MacBook, iPad etc.) are unable to enable new features without updating iOS 27 or equivalent versions
  • The fact that a 18-year-old son has updated MacBook, the sister prevents the implementation of controls on iPhone
  • Apple’s version requirements create a problem of incompatible and operating system fragmentation in families with different age groups
  • Despite the lack of parental control properties that have been felt for many years, the new system still carries the restriction of device compatibility

Although Apple’s ecosystem integration looks firm, it shows how disappoints families in practical use. The differentity of technology preferences of device update calendars and household members significantly limited the accessibility of new features. Apple’s review of such restrictions seems inevitable to improve user experience.
