LLM Parkinsonism: Control Loss Issue of Artificial Intelligence Agents

Large language models (LLM) can perform many complex tasks: planing, using tools, writes code. However, a new research released in arXiv reveals that it is a serious problem that escapes review in these systems. This condition called LLM Parkinsonism means that after the original targets of agents are met, they continue their actions.
The main features of the problem are:
- After completing the goal of agents, it continues to make low value improvements
- Doing the same controls back to the unnecessary location
- He spends resources to fix the complexity of their creations
- Token efficiency significantly falls
- There is a lack of control at the project level
In the study conducted by the research, LLM’s local competence and **genel execution control is highlighted with a serious difference. In other words, although a model is successful in individual tasks, it can not effectively manage the entire task chain.
For this problem, researchers recommend global execution control architecture that is aware of uncertainty. This approach is designed to better understand when agents need to stop and make unsuccessful assessments smarter.
With the use of LLM-based autonomous systems in more complex projects, the development of such control mechanisms is critical. Research offers an important step to make artificial intelligence agents more reliable and efficient.
