An important progress was recorded in AI and robotic field. The researchers showed that Vision-Language Navigation (VLN) technology can successfully carry out the robots in the real world from the simulation environment. This system allows robots to navigation in the environment by understanding the natural language instructions.

Traditional VLN models have many restrictions:

  • 360 degree fixed viewing angles instead of supporting limited camera perspectives in real world robots
  • addiction to navigation graphs, which makes difficulty in applying in real environments
  • Excellent location information required, rare in real robots Home
  • Complexity of making human-robot interaction natural and intuitive

This study developed a VLN approach that can be adapted to real world conditions with a mobile robot with Ackermann dgil system. The researchers have provided that robots understand and implement natural language commands by solving the domain difference between simulation and reality.

As a result, this progress makes human-robot interaction more intuitive and accessible. Users can now redirect the robot with instructions in the natural language instead of learning complex script systems. This technology has the potential to be used from home robots to industrial applications.
