The Cybercab project, expected to wonder Tesla, finally came to roads. However, the first test rides were laid out in the eyes of how complex a full autonomous taxi service is brought. This development in the intersection of artificial intelligence and delivery sector gives important tips about the future of the sector.

The emergence of Cybercab revealed the following points:

  • Real world conditions are much more difficult than laboratory tests: The system successful in simulators encounter unexpected situations in real traffic
  • Tesla’s artificial intelligence model was reported to have trouble in parking operations and perform performance in certain weather conditions
  • Otonom vehicles are forced to keep complex status test driving limited in terms of legal and insurance
  • Tesla compared to other autonomous vehicle companies monitors a more aggressive timeline

Tesla’s setback is not actually surprised. Otonom driving technology requires millions of hours of testing data and means re-learning every new environment. Cybercab project proves that the company’s technology and engineering capacity is still at the beginning of the way to become commercially feasible for autonomous taxi service.

The next months will determine how quickly Tesla will solve these problems and when a truly done autonomous taxi network can work without human intervention. This success will affect the speed of development of the entire autonomous vehicle market because the sector is closely monitoring its success.
