The wireless version of Apple CarPlay revealed a question that many users wonder: how does this connection actually happen? Is Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or both are it activated? The answer is simple but highly interesting in technological aspects: it also uses two, but for different purposes.

Wireless CarPlay connection works in two stages:

  • First matching: Bluetooth is used to install a secure connection between the tool information entertainment system with your device -Data transfer: High speed communication of map, music, phone and other applications is performed via Wi-Fi
  • Calp pulse control: Bluetooth monitors continuous communication to ensure the connection remains active -Low delay: Wi-Fi offers a fluent experience by getting rid of Bluetooth’s bandwidth limitations

The low power consumption of Bluetooth has made it the first choice of vehicle systems. This protocol is ideal for recognizing devices and establishing the first connection between them. But the bandwidth required for communication of real-time map data, music flow and applications exceeds the capacity of Bluetooth.

For this reason, Apple provides high-speed data transfer through Wi-Fi network. By continuing to work on Bluetooth background, the connection remains uninterrupted and manages second plan tasks. Thisdual-layer approach provides both secure matching and fast performance.

As a result, the combination of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi is making the wireless CarPlay reliable and efficient.
